He Is Not a Feeling—He Is God Living in You

From February, our hearts are still echoing the powerful word PastorE shared from Acts 2. We’re looking back at the moment that changed everything: Being Filled!

It was the day the promise was fulfilled—the day God stopped just speaking to His people and started dwelling within them. As Peter declared in Acts 2:17:

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh.

All flesh. Not just the perfect or the put-together. That means you. That means us. But to truly walk in this Outpouring, we have to settle a common misunderstanding.

Beyond the Goosebumps

In our culture (and sometimes even in our churches), we tend to talk about the Holy Spirit as if He is a “vibe” or an emotional peak. We wait for the “goosebumps” during worship or a specific “warmth” to feel like He’s there.

But the Holy Spirit is not a feeling. When we reduce Him to an emotion, we only reach for Him when we’re “feeling” low. We start checking in with our moods instead of communing with a Person. The truth is much more incredible: He is God’s Spirit—fully God—living inside of you with specific purpose and undeniable power, whether you “feel” Him in the moment or not.

Getting to Know the Person Within

The Bible doesn’t refer to the Holy Spirit as an it or a vague energy. Jesus introduced Him as our Comforter, Helper, and Spirit of Truth. He has a voice, a will, and a deep love for you.

Here is what He is doing in your life right this second:

  • Your Comforter: When life feels heavy, He isn’t watching from a distance. He is present, covering you with peace that defies logic. (John 14:16)

  • Your Teacher & Guide: He isn’t just for “religious” questions. He wants to guide your daily decisions, your career, and your parenting. (John 16:13)

  • Your Intercessor: On the days you don’t even have the words to pray? He steps in and prays through you and for you with a depth words can’t capture. (Romans 8:26)

  • Your Empowerment: The very same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is currently residing in your heart. You aren’t operating on your own strength anymore. (Romans 8:11)

Walking with Him- you have a visitor on the inside!

Let’s move from knowing about Him to walking with Him this month. Try these three practical steps:

  1. The Morning Acknowledgment: Before you check your email or social media, take ten seconds to say out loud: Good Morning Holy Spirit, I acknowledge You today. Lead me. This simple habit shifts your mindset from self-reliance to Spirit-dependence.

  2. A “Name” Study: Pick one of His names this week—Comforter, Helper, or Spirit of Truth. Look up the scriptures associated with that name. Ask yourself: How do I need Him to be my [Name] today?

  3. The Two-Way Journal: Sit quietly for five minutes with a notebook. Write down: “Holy Spirit, what do You want me to know about Your love for me today?” Then, listen. Write down the encouraging thoughts that come to your heart. It’s about practicing the “ear” of your heart to hear His still, small voice.

Father, thank You for the gift of Your Spirit. We thank You that we don’t have to chase a feeling to find You. Help us to recognize the Holy Spirit as a Person and a Friend. Teach us to lean on His power and listen for His guidance every single day. Let the Outpouring begin in our individual hearts so it can overflow into our homes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
